Why I'm Running
Hello, I’m T. Robert Hill. I have dedicated my entire professional life to advocating for those who have no voice in our legal system. Now as a lawyer, businessman, husband, father and grandfather I want to apply my experience and talent to serving the people of the 73rd House District as their voice and their advocate in Nashville. I believe that the best foundation for good jobs and economic security for all Tennesseans is a great education, accessible and affordable healthcare and fair and equal opportunities.
I grew up in East Tennessee in a suburb of Knoxville, the oldest of three children of T.R. and Evelyn Hill. I attended public schools in Knoxville, graduating from Knox Central in 1962, from the University of Tennessee, College of Business in 1967 and the U.T. College of Law in 1968. I was admitted to the bar in 1969 and moved my family to Dyersburg that same year where I practiced law until 1974 when I moved to Jackson to start a new law firm. In 1996 the firm became Hill Boren PC. I served as statewide president for the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association in 1978-79 and have been active in multiple professional organizations during my almost 50 years as an attorney.
I am married to Tamara Bain Hill, daughter of William (Sonny) and Toni Bain. We live on a ‘farm’ at 3155 Beech Bluff Road. Tamara grew up on a family farm on Christmasville Road and attended public schools in Madison County, graduating from North Side High School. She is a two-time graduate of Union University, once in nursing and once in organizational leadership, and a graduate of University of Memphis College of Law. Tamara and I practice law in personal injury and estate planning. We have been married for 12 years. Between us, we have five children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. We are both Christians and members of the First United Methodist Church Jackson where I have served as member and co-chair of the missions’ team and teach Sunday school on occasion.
I was born into a ‘Depression Era’ Democratic family in Knoxville whose history can be traced back to the coal fields of eastern Kentucky and western Virginia in the 20’s and 30’s, and I have been a Democrat my entire life. I earned money for things like baseball gloves and a bicycle with a paper route I began at age 11. My family owned a family grocery store in Knoxville where I worked as a young man until my graduation from law school. I have served on the Madison County Democratic Executive Committee through the years, serving as its Chairman for two terms.
I love University of Tennessee athletics and am an avid golfer. I am a member of the Woodland Hills Golf Club in south Madison County where I play as much as possible. I am also a hunter and a sometimes fisherman. I love the outdoors and valuable time with family and friends. My wife and I have two dogs and two barn cats.
I am asking you to elect me as State Representative from House District 73.
